The Peace of The Early Riser

A peaceful soul requires a life of structure. I have found that early mornings provide a sense of solitude, stability, and the peace that humans crave every single day. Life has consisted of many "new normals" lately, as the pandemic has us all out of our comfort zones. Although you could apply the words I write today as a "how to" in living through a global crisis, my intention today is to touch on the importance of structure and stability through Jesus as a human in a general sense.  The past three years saw me venture through another season of growth and maturity. It amazes me that throughout all of my imperfections and victim mentality tendencies, He still has remained by my side. The deepest imperfection that I deal with is my "do it all myself" attitude. Depression and anxiety have been two of my largest battles on this Earth. I have tried medication after medication making desperate attempts to get it under control to no avail. The victim mentality...

A Choice To Be Faithful

Life is all about choices. Each decision we make determines the course of our journey on this Earth. Free will is an interesting concept: we have the power to choose how we spend each minute of our existence.  The Lord recently placed this on my heart to share; the dramatic change in lifestyle has been quite a challenging time for everyone; it certainly has highlighted the importance of making the choice to be faithful in our trust and reliance upon Christ. One look at social media or five minutes spent watching the evening news will let you know that the world is submerged in chaos; the government cannot agree on anything, everyone is arguing online, and people are just plain mean.  The amount of hate in our society has me caught somewhere between anger and grief. I have anger because I find it unbelievable that we live in a world where all of this is allowed to transpire, and no one is doing anything to stop it; my soul grieves, because I see the evil that continues to hold ...

Faith Through Uncertainty

The villainous air that is filtering through this world today is truly a sad thing to witness; the antagonistic news media works to fill our homes with gloom and despair. No one person can agree on how to help this sinking nation; panic buying has depleted our store shelves and fear has stolen most common sense. Fear is not the solution to a problem; the force that drives us to make decisions blindly only worsens the original issue. I don't have all the answers. I don't know what tomorrow holds; however, the nasty behavior of some honestly saddens my soul. It is important to be cautious in a time such as this, and to be uneasy is understandable; invisible warfare is real and it is a danger to society. Exercising your faith through uncertainty can be difficult; in the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, I was freaking out because my mother has lupus and is immuno-compromised. The idea of life changing so rapidly, with no idea of when or if it would ever be the same made ...

Through The Hardest of Times

The blog comes back tonight with a post with a message that has been heavy on my heart and mind. Hard times are surrounding us and the world is laden with fear and uncertainty in the face of a global pandemic. Hearts are hurting. Families are going through heartache and loss on so many levels; it can be hard to have faith when everyone is going through the hardest of times in one way or another. What can we do to help us have the strength to push through something that we can't on our own? 1) Prayer-  Prayer is of utmost importance in coming through difficulty no matter the situation. I have found that conversations with the Lord have an unmatched comforting quality. Christ is the best friend that could ever be had. He will listen. He knows everything about you. All of your qualities. Thoughts. Emotions. Fears. You name it, He knows it. A hurting heart needs prayer. The Lord will always be a comfort. Lend Him your troubles. He'll lend you a comforting hand through the hard...

Overflowing Heart (A Short Story) *Coffee House Writers Original*

The thought of high school and the remembrance of one of the greatest friend quartets that ever existed always brings a smile to my face. The teenage years can be tricky, but I was blessed to have them and to have kept them through thick and thin in all the years that have passed. I am a blessed man at the age of thirty five. The most special of happenings between us came when we met the person that made us that quartet, Mike. Before I give anything away, allow me to take you back to tell the story of that life changing week. Lunch time was our favorite hour of the day. We got to hang outside and socialize and be the goofy selves that we were. One day I saw a young boy sitting on a bench reading. The “new kid” status is always a tough one to get past.  How is he so comfortable all alone?  The curiosity killed me. My friends joined in to see what I was glancing at. “What’s the point of talking to him Nick? He won’t like us!” challenged Leon. “Yeah, Nick. We have our gr...

The Essence of Christmas (2019 update)

The Christmas season has come upon us and the year of 2019 is soon to be the newest installment of memories from the past; children are excitedly anticipating opening their presents while adults scramble to purchase last minute stocking stuffers & seemingly forgotten dinner menu items. The world these days chooses to commercialize Christmas so much so that the majority of people seem to overlook the true essence and reason for the season: the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the most important reason for the Christmas holiday; He died on the cross for our sins and will save whosoever calls upon Him, acknowledges that they are a sinner and in need of a Savior, and will accept Him into their heart and trust in Him for salvation. I am so grateful for my salvation, because I know my life would be nothing without His watchful eye and loving care. I am thankful that anyone can have that personal relationship with Him if they so choose. Family time is another special aspect of ...

Testimony Series: When You Are Tired

Even when I am tired, I still have a lot to praise Him for. Another Thanksgiving has come and gone; now begins the Christmas season. A time to reflect on all that He has done for me. I am in the middle of a cerebral palsy induced fatigue spell, and I haven't felt much in the mood to sit down and write; however, I cannot let that completely stop me from sharing what His presence means to me. Writing has always been a passion of mine and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to serve Him through my words. Fatigue has made unleashing that creativity a little more of a challenge; I am thankful that He gave me a sense of determination to push through even when my body doesn't want to. I know that there are so many ways that I could be a better witness for Him. I tend to stay to myself more than I should.  I love that He loves me anyway. When I am tired, He lets me rest if I my body needs it. When I am tired, He helps me to push through and do things that I need to do. ...
