The Lord placed a thought on my heart this past week as I was walking through Walmart and on the way to my hair appointment. August is the official start of all things "Back to School" and I've forever loved the whole idea of it. There's nothing better for me than walking through and seeing all of the backpacks, pencil pouches, and lunchboxes. I'm not even in school anymore---yet it still manages to excite me and I don't even know why.
Maybe I still should have been some sort of teacher (elementary education was my first choice for a major while attending college) but I've always been someone that had a heart for learning.
Ask my mom and she will tell you all the stories about how I used to become SO excited for the first day of school that she had to give me a Benadryl the night before just so I would be able to fall asleep or how I cried on Saturdays as a kindergartner because I wanted to go so badly and felt so upset when I found out school wasn't in session on the weekends.
I loved my teachers. I was closer with a lot of them (throughout middle school and high school) than I was with my peers who were in my own age group. I was never the most popular and anybody that was considered cool wanted absolutely nothing to do with me.
My teachers were the only ones who saw me for who I truly was and they were full of infinite wisdom even outside of the classroom and I enjoyed talking to many of them during lunch from time to time.
Those memories bring me right into my thought for today and I hope the words that He has given me to write will serve as both and encouragement and a strengthener for your heart on this Saturday evening.
My heart still loves to study and to learn. Many of you know that I began participating in monthly Scripture Writing and I can honestly tell you that it has helped me SO much in my walk with Christ.
The theme for this month is "A Heart to Teach" and seeing that title sparked the thought in me for tonight's message:
The world we live in is a spiritually noisy place and it can be difficult to find a moment where life is perfectly still and motivation is at an all time high.
I'm spending this evening catching up on my Scripture Writing and I will admit that while I'm never the greatest at keeping up with it all month long---I do my best to catch up if I'm ever falling behind schedule, I don't simply stop.
It is best to strive for a heart that lives to study His Word and tries to learn from it every single day. A child-like heart of pure excitement that LOVES His Word so much that you feel absolutely miserable on the days you don't spend time in it.
No one does it perfectly. Some days are busier than others and sometimes your heart just isn't feeling it because life never goes as smoothly as you would want it to.
Your head may not want to spend time with Him today. There's a lot of distraction and destruction going around in our world right now.
But your heart will always need it in order to learn and to grow.
The Godly wisdom you gain today could be something you will share with someone you haven't yet met.
A heart that's well prepared to learn is a heart that's well prepared to teach.
"For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments" (Ezra 7:10 KJV)
