An Investment In Jesus

If you've followed the news at all throughout the last few weeks, it's hard to miss the continuous updates on the Titan submersible story; every article paints an unimaginable picture. I can't help but wonder what was going through their minds, or if anything was at all, in those last few moments. The fear and helplessness they felt must have been awful. All of the money and notoriety in the world couldn't save them; they were submerged in total darkness and in the middle of one hopeless situation.  I don't know if they were aware of it all beforehand, but if so, you know they weren't thinking about their social standing in the world. Perhaps their hearts were with their families. One of them may have even called out to God as desperation continued to grow. Their lives were over in the blink of an eye.  I write all of this introduction to ask you these two important questions: Where are you putting your treasures? Are you making an investment in eternit...

The Audience of One

There's nothing quite comparable to the experience of a first-place win; those victories are always unforgettable. When I was in the fifth grade, I won a spelling bee. I can still remember every bit of the excitement I felt upon realizing that I would be moving forward as a representative for my school at the county-wide level of competition I spent the next few weeks deeply involved in studying and strengthening my spelling ability. It was all so exciting! As the evening of the spelling bee finally arrived, a small amount of nervousness began to creep in, although I was more than prepared for whatever the night may bring. My ultimate goal was to be crowned the winner. I wanted to be the best and to have the chance to keep on competing. There were twenty kids in all and after several rounds of increasingly difficult words, I lost on one that I can't even remember now and ended up placing sixth in the competition overall.
