The Gift of A Disability

Cerebral palsy has without a doubt been the biggest challenge I've ever faced. Twenty five years as someone with CP has taught me one of the most important and valuable lessons that many without disabilities never learn: there is beauty in even the biggest of hurdles. It is because of cerebral palsy that I try to live life to the fullest; it is because of cerebral palsy that I have the strength to conquer anything. It is because of cerebral palsy that I have purpose and so much peace. I do have "off days", moments where I wonder "why me?" but I think that is a perfectly normal human response. I get frustrated. I feel anger.  I sometimes picture what I think I would have been like, what  I would be in to career wise. I've never understood God's decision completely; but as I'm experiencing life I'm slowly understanding so much more about why I have the gift of cerebral palsy with each passing day.  Yes, I consider cerebral palsy to be a...

The True Meaning of Easter (Spring Blog 2017)

The season of Spring is often viewed by many as a time filled with endless colorful scenery; the beginnings of new life surrounding us with each new flower bloom that we can see. Easter is a time we celebrate Christ resurrection. He lives! To me, Spring is not just about pretty flowers, chocolate bunnies, or a delicious meal on Easter Sunday, but it is also a daily metaphorical reminder of His death, His payment on the cross for all of our sins, and His continuance of blossoming life as our Heavenly father. I couldn't decide whether or not to do an Easter blog AND a Spring blog, or just to combine them both. After praying about it this morning, I have combined the two as I feel the dead flower blooming back to life example is a perfect way to describe  the true point of Easter and the power that He can have within our lives. Today, I would like to share the three things we should pray to Him about, so that He can make us into a true reflection of who He is.  The first mos...

Springing Forth With Excitement!

Hey guys! I have not been blogging for the past several weeks and I am happy to be back at it today; the title of this post is a great summary of the April I've had so far. A lot of exciting things have been occurring in my life lately and I wanted to take to the blog to share with my readers today: As you know, a couple of months ago I brought home a golden lab puppy and I named her Ruby; she just turned 3 months old on April 6th and is growing like a weed. My Ruby is the sweetest little girl who loves everybody and loves companionship. We are still in the stages of teething and hardcore running and playing; I figure that will last a good while. In addition to Ruby, I have a 6 year old Pomeranian whom she  just adores and they do play well together, but he tires out rather quickly.  April 5th saw me celebrate my 25th birthday; a milestone that I felt very thrilled to surpass. I had such a wonderful birthday. Months prior to Wednesday, I had applied to be on the West ...

New Challenges & New Horizons

Wow, what a busy time the past few weeks have been. I apologize for seemingly being missing in action from the blog lately; a lot of new exciting things that I have to share with you makes today the perfect time to return to Molly's Zone. I describe life as a winding road with frequent new challenges and new horizons that unravel as time passes. The trick to succeeding in every aspect is to find and maintain a healthy balance; routine and structure are the key.  Late February saw the arrival of my new pup, Ruby; a golden lab with lots of lovable energy mixed in with a bit of a sassy attitude. The most wonderful part of having Ruby is having a new best friend; I am her sole caretaker, so she has brought a new perspective on the meaning of purpose to my life; a new responsibility similar to that of a new mother. Life is not all about me anymore. I've had moments where I have gotten frustrated with trying to house train her and I stay tired, but she is a very sweet and loving...

Late Valentine's Day Blog: Focus on Yourself

Valentine's Day is known widely as a celebration of love; roses, boxes of chocolates, or various gifts/romantic outings are designated for this special occasion as a means of showing affection. As a single person on this day, I choose to view it as a day of self reflection on what all I've accomplished as a young woman. I stay positive and look at the reasons why I'm okay with living life as it is. Relationships are a lot of work. I have been a single gal for nearly three years now and even though I miss the whole idea of being in love, I realize that for the time being a romance is the last thing I want or need. I'm not saying I never want it again. Right now is just not the time. I'd like to share with you tonight three main reasons why I'm choosing to be single and off the market.  First of all, I love my independence. I don't drive, but I'm still very much self sufficient. I am a person who loves accomplishing as much as she can. If I ever do ha...

What Can I Offer As an Advocate?

Every person who lives with a disability faces huge challenges in this world. The core issue that stands in between those with disabilities and having a voice that's heard is simply how the world defines what a disability is. For instance, Webster's Dictionary states that a disability is the condition of being unable to perform as a consequence of physical or mental unfitness; the definition itself bothers me because it is so vague and leaves room for someone to make the unfair assumption that those who have a disability can't function period. The thought is both unfair and untrue. I'm here today to provide my own definition of the word; I'm here to tell you that while cerebral palsy is a part of me, it does not define me at all; I'm a perfectly normal college graduate who is just trying to make her way in society. I haven't been dealt the smoothest of cards, but I have accepted life for what it is and I've made the best of what I have. I fe...

My New Years Resolutions (2017)

2017 is officially here. Wow. A new year has come upon us. A year filled with three hundred and sixty five opportunities to pursue God's plan for our lives. I have so much to look forward to; I will turn the big 25 in April and there's so much more I'd like to accomplish as I enter the second part of my twenties. The new year has given me a sense of purpose and determination like I've never had. I have just a few resolutions that I'd like to share today, and I may not accomplish all of them in one year, but above everything else I just want to continue growing into the person God intends for me to be. I'm not perfect, but I want this to be the year that I really blossom. I hope you enjoy today's post.  #1: Have Greater Faith- I'll be honest. I know that I could use a little more faith when it comes to my walk with the Lord. I am one of those people that has a habit of just running on my own little auto pilot trying to control everything because I do...
